PhD, DSc Anna BŁACH, prof. at SUT
has passed away

Anna Błach was born on September 13, 1935 in Lviv. She graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology. She started working at the Department of Descriptive Geometry in 1965, after several years as a construction engineer. She obtained a doctorate in technical sciences in 1973, for the thesis "The issue of angles in the construction of circles", and habilitation thesis "Selected issues of geometry of rotational structures" in 2001. In the years 1981 - 1982 she was the deputy director of the Institute of Descriptive Geometry and a member of the Scientific Institute Council. After transforming the Department of Descriptive Geometry into the Graphics and Engineering Geometry Center in 1993, she took over the management of the unit. It was during her term of office that the Center was excluded from the structures of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and became an independent inter-faculty unit. As a person endowed with great organizational talent, she actively took care of the local and technical working conditions of the Center. From 2000, she was a member of the Higher Education Central Council, in which she chaired the Didactics and Student Affairs Committee. As part of the work carried out by the Higher Education Council, she coordinated the development of Teaching Standards for many fields of higher education. She was the author of didactic books: "Geometry. A review of selected issues for pupils and students", "Engineering Descriptive Geometry. Basics and applications", "Engineering Descriptive Geometry. Basics and applications - a set of tasks", "Selected geometric definitions and constructions. Planimetry and stereometry. "and the initiator and co-author of numerous teaching materials developed at the Graphics and Engineering Geometry Graphics Center. She was the author of numerous publications and conference speeches. Until her retirement in 2010, she actively participated in national and international conferences. Dr hab. Eng. From the first conference, Anna Błach chaired the Organizing Committee of the International Conference "Geometry Graphics Computer" (former "Geometry and Computer" Seminar organized for the first time in 1988), and in the years 2002-2017 she chaired the Scientific Committee of the Conference organized by the Geometry and Engineering Graphics Center. In the years 2002 - 2012, PhD Dsc Eng. Anna Błach was the President of the Polish Society of Geometry and Engineering Graphics. Before she was completely absorbed by matters of geometry and graphics, she was very active in organizing tourism, especially for children and teenagers (organizing, among others, ski schools). After retiring, she continued to actively support organizational, didactic and scientific activities, and for her colleagues she was and will always be a model of diligence, reliability and solidity in research and teaching.

A friend of young people, an excellent organizer, a tutor of many generations of young scientists, a great, reliable boss, whose help and kindness could always be counted on - this will remain in our memory.

The Holy Mass will be celebrated on May 21, 2021 at 11:00 in the Church of St. Michael in Gliwice. The last farewell will take place immediately after the Holy Mass at the Lime Cemetery in Gliwice.
