Department History
The Department was established on January 1, 2020, following the restructuring of the Institute of Informatics. It was formed through the strategic merger of the Graphics, Vision, and Computer Simulation Division and the Microinformatics and Digital Systems Theory Group.
Our faculty and researchers primarily represent the scientific discipline of Technical Informatics and Telecommunications.
The Department’s current structure is built upon decades of academic excellence and specialized research:
Graphics, Vision, and Computer Simulation Division
-
Established: April 2013, within the Institute of Informatics.
-
Founding: Initiated by Prof. Konrad Wojciechowski, who served as the first Group Leader.
-
Growth: In September 2014, the unit was formally transformed into a full Division under the leadership of Prof. Andrzej Polański.
Microinformatics and Digital Systems Theory Group
This group carries a long-standing tradition of digital systems research:
-
1971–1977: Operated as the Digital Automata Theory Group within the Institute of Industrial Automation and Measurements.
-
The Transition: Following the reorganization of the Faculty and the founding of the Institute of Real-Time Informatics, the group became a key component of the new structure.
-
1984 onwards: Known as the Microinformatics and Digital Automata Theory Division, it continued its mission within the Institute of Informatics until the formation of the current Department.
