Department of Computer Graphics, Vision and Digital Systems

The main research and development fields are advanced computer graphics and vision, digital geometry processing, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, digital circuits and IoT systems. The general research also concerned development of appropriate algorithms related to the topic of acquisition, storage, analysis and synthesis of motion data.

The scope of research of the Department of Computer Graphics, Vision and Digital Systems in details includes:

Computer graphics and vision – digital geometry processing, multiresolution data processing, graphics rendering, Virtual and Augmented Reality, optimization of CAD models, trainings in AR/VR environment, application of VR for solutions for people 60+, skeletal animation, facial animation, computer vision in industry applications, acquisition, processing and recognition of multi- and hyperspectral imaging.

Analysis of human motion – multiresolution analysis, quaternion tools to motion data analysis, acquisition, marker based, marker less and sensors based motion acquisition systems, re-identifying a person, studying the local dynamic stability during gait, early detecting the symptoms of neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. Parkinson disease), creating methods for virtual rehabilitation, discriminative analysis of multimodal motion data, model based and model free methods applied to maker based and marker less motion capture data as well as raw video sequences.

Human centric image and signal processing for computer vision and graphical application – image quality of experience modelling, machine learning for color harmony reception, modelling of human image reception, human motion signal processing, motion capture technology methods.

Artificial intelligence, methods, techniques and application – artificial neutral networks, classifiers (feature extraction for pattern recognition), computational intelligence and aspects of fuzzy reasoning systems, fuzzy reasoning based on fuzzy truth value, genetic algorithms, evolutionary algorithms and training set selection, statistical and probabilistic reasoning, artificial intelligence in computer games, especially the problem of adjusting the game to the user’s level (game balancing), Hidden Markov Models for analyzing education data.

Biomedical engineering – Magnetic Resonance Imaging, segmentation and classification of brain tumors, biomedical signal processing, human motion acquisition systems.

Biosciences – bioinformatics, theory of evolution, coalescence theory, mitochondrial eve dating, natural selection.

Computer systems and networks – computer architecture, computer-based measurement systems and their programming, computer peripherals and system communication, data acquisition and control systems, wireless computer networking.

Digital circuits – including: computer-aided design, educational programs, logic circuit fundamentals, as well as arithmetic, microprocessor and embedded systems and programmable logic devices; IoT.

Nanoscience and informatic nanosystems – including: biological and quantum systems, nanotechnology.

Natural language processing – stylometry, authorship attribution.

Signal processing – wavelets, lifting schema, multiresolution signal processing.

Digital modeling – dynamical systems modeling, deterministic chaos and time-series analysis, heuristic optimization algorithms.

Quantum information theory – structuring of quantum computation leading to define complex building blocks (oracle) of the quantum program, quantum classification and image processing, building a quantum computational system based on the optical quantum phenomena.
