The Strategic Partnerships Programme is an initiative of the Polish National Agency for
Academic Exchange (NAWA), supporting Polish higher education institutions and research
organisations in establishing and developing long-term international cooperation. The programme
aims to create durable, systemic links with foreign partners in the areas of education, research,
administration, and implementation activities.
The projects implemented under the programme contribute, among others, to
strengthening internationalisation capacity, introducing innovative solutions in higher education,
and exchanging best practices. The programme also supports building the international position
of Polish universities through the development of partnerships encompassing multiple fields of
cooperation.
An important element of the programme is the active involvement of international partners
in the preparation and implementation of activities, as well as ensuring sustainable outcomes that
extend beyond the project’s funding period.

The main objective of the project “Partnership for the Protection and Modernisation of
the Architectural Heritage of the Second Half of the 20th Century in the Context of the
Green Transition and Environmental Challenges” is to support academic institutions in
conducting scientific research and in building research and teaching capacity through
internationalisation and the mutual exchange of knowledge and experience between partners.
The implementation of this objective is based on the establishment of an international
research partnership network and the integration of joint activities focused on the study and
protection of the architectural heritage of the second half of the 20th century. This cooperation
enables coordinated and long-term research actions that respond to contemporary environmental
and climate-related challenges.
In all countries represented by the partner academic institutions, there are issues related to
the neglect of modernist architectural heritage, although their scale and nature vary depending on
economic, technological and legal conditions, as well as differing approaches to heritage values.
Therefore, building a lasting partnership encompassing research, continuous information
exchange and the monitoring of shared experiences not only provides a valuable knowledge base
for project activities, but also contributes to strengthening the international presence of Polish
science and higher education.

The project is addressed to PHD students and academic staf, and involves their exchange
aimed at the protection and modernisation of the architectural heritage of the second half of the
20th century in the context of the green transition and environmental challenges.
