Training: Word – Advanced Features in the Work of an Academic Teacher

The Center for Modern Education at the Silesian University of Technology has inaugurated a new series of training sessions titled “Game-based learning – edition 2”, aimed at enriching teaching practice and supporting the professional development of academic teachers in a modern educational environment. The “Game-based learning – edition 2” package includes five workshops addressing the challenges of contemporary didactics.

On October 18, 2025, the first workshop took place: Word – Advanced Features Useful in the Work of an Academic Teacher. Creating professional, interactive documents and educational materials can be easier than you think.

The training was designed for academic teachers who wish to enhance their digital competencies and make more effective use of Microsoft Word’s capabilities in designing and conducting classes. Participants learned advanced features of the text editor that enable them to create professional, interactive documents and streamline the preparation of educational materials.

During the workshop, participants:

• created interactive elements in documents: tables of contents, bookmarks, footnotes and endnotes, bibliographies;
• designed electronic forms (e.g., surveys, worksheets, grading sheets);
• prepared mail merge correspondence (e.g., generating personalized certificates and information letters);
• improved their digital skills in document editing and automation;
• learned to create clear, well-organized teaching materials using interactive elements;
• enhanced their ability to increase work efficiency through process automation (e.g., generating batch documents);
• and developed the skills needed to create engaging educational materials that support the learning process.

The second edition of the Game-based learning series is led by Stefan Nowicki, PhD, a trainer in digital competencies for academic teachers, instructional designer, and graduate of the Institute for Emerging Leadership in Online Learning (Online Learning Consortium & Washington State University). He is a certified Microsoft PowerPoint Specialist, Word Expert, and Minecraft Trainer.

The next workshop, "Active Learning Methods in Working with Students and the Use of Teaching Tools, including AI", will take place on November 15, 2025.

Subsequent training sessions will continue according to the schedule, and the series will conclude in January 2026.
