Best practices in teaching, edition II – summary of the training cycle
In October 2025, the Center for Modern Education at the Silesian University of Technology hosted the second edition of the training cycle “Best practices in teaching,” aimed at doctoral students and young research and teaching staff. The series aimed to support novice teachers in developing the skills necessary to effectively and modernly conduct classes with students, both in Polish and English.
The first meeting took place on October 7, 2025, marking the inauguration of the second edition of the program. Participants were welcomed by Prof. Anna Chrobok, PhD, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education, and Anna Waligóra, PhD, Director of the Center for Modern Education. During the training, issues related to the role of an academic teacher, teaching methodology, self-presentation, evaluation of learning outcomes, and cooperation with foreign students were discussed. During the meeting, Prof. Nikodem Kuźnik introduced the audience to the topic: Teacher Master. What should an academic teacher be like? He discussed issues related to the relationship between the lecturer and the student, the attitude of an academic teacher, and the ethics of education. Dr. Roksana Poloczek presented a workshop on teaching methodology and self-presentation entitled: What and how to say and how to present knowledge in class. Issues related to the evaluation/assessment of learning outcomes and working with international students were characterized by Dr. Paweł Lasek, while Dr. Anna Waligóra introduced the audience to topics related to academic didactics, modern teaching in accordance with the principles of neurodidactics, student motivation, and effective communication.
The next training session, for the second group of participants, took place on October 10, 2025, and continued the theme of best practices in academic teaching. The meeting was opened by Prof. Beata Orlińska, Director of the College of Studies, and Anna Waligóra, PhD in social sciences. Participants took part in workshops led by experienced lecturers, devoted to topics such as academic ethics, effective communication, student motivation, and modern teaching methods based on the principles of neurodidactics. During the training, participants attended a series of presentations dedicated to various aspects of academic teaching. Prof. Nikodem Kuźnik, PhD, Eng., discussed the role and attitude of academic teachers in the context of student relations and teaching ethics. Roksana Poloczek, PhD, Eng., led a practical workshop on teaching methodology and self-presentation, focusing on effective ways to transfer knowledge. Dr. Paweł Lasek presented issues related to the assessment of learning outcomes and cooperation with international students. Dr. Anna Waligóra presented modern teaching approaches based on neurodidactics, student motivation, and effective communication.
The last meeting in the series took place on October 14, 2025, at the Library of the Silesian University of Technology and was conducted in English. It was attended by doctoral students preparing to teach in an international academic environment.
The program covered topics such as communication and academic culture, the role of the teacher as a mentor, presentation of knowledge, assessment of learning outcomes, and neurodidactics in modern education.

A total of 123 participants attended the three meetings, where they had the opportunity not only to expand their knowledge and teaching skills, but also to exchange experiences and best practices in the field of modern academic teaching.
