Re-matriculation of graduates
On the 2nd of December, at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation, a ceremony of re-matriculation of graduates of the then Mining Faculty, who started their studies 50 years ago, in 1974, took place. Nearly 70 former students attended the ceremony.
Prof. Anna Chrobok, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Krzysztof Filipowicz, Prof. SUT, Dean of the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation and Stefan Spyra President of the Association of students of WGIBiAP welcomed the participants.
- “Dear graduates, I am very pleased to welcome you today at the Silesian University of Technology, I am glad that we can host you with us today. I think that today’s ceremony is very touching for you.” – Prof. Anna Chrobok addressed the participants.
- “We invite you to visit our University, which has undergone many changes since 1974. We are a modern University that is dynamically developing, cooperates with the industrial environment, with business, which also educates students from abroad and conducts very wide research” – said the Vice-Rector.

As the Dean of the Faculty emphasized, such celebrations as re-matriculation after 50 years are rare at universities. – “For our graduates, this is a unique, emotional meeting, because after 50 years from the beginning of their studies, they can once again become students, meet their former colleagues, move back to the times when they started learning here. This is not the first such meeting, we have been organizing them for many years and they are always accompanied by great emotions. I feel honoured to see our graduates as students of our faculty,” said Dr Hab. Eng. Krzysztof Filipowicz, Prof. SUT, Dean Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering, and Industrial Automation.
Matriculates took the oath, received the commemorative student book, and listened to the inaugural lecture entitled “Mineral raw materials in our lives,” which was given by Prof. Małgorzata Labus.
The ceremony was an opportunity for commemorative photos, visiting the Faculty, memories and conversations with colleagues from the year.

- “50 years is a lot and little. Despite the passage of time, we all recognize each other, we say: Hello, you have not changed much. We remember first names, and surnames. We also remember well this famous hall 300, where we meet today and years ago, we had lectures and exams in it,” said Michał Manowski, who graduated in Mining Design and Construction at the then Mining Department.
-“ It is amazing that after so many years we can meet, especially in this room, from which we have so many memories, such as the famous exams in physics, where the professor ran around the room and checked if we were not cheating’ – adds Marek Zbigniew, a graduate of Mining Machines.
Among the former students present at the ceremony was also Stanisława Wizner, who at that time was one of the few women studying at the Mining Faculty.
– “My whole family was connected with mining, both my husband and father-in-law worked at the mine – recalls Ms. Stanisława. I chose the mining department because of the opportunities it gave students in those days. I had a chance to get a good job and pay. Although I have not worked long in the profession, I remember my time at the University very well. I also worked in youth organizations, thanks to which I had the opportunity to go abroad, which was a phenomenon in those times” – said Ms. Stanisława.
The organizer of the re-matriculation of graduates after 50 years from the beginning of studies was the Association of students of the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering, and Industrial Automation.
