Science Days at Silesian University of Technology

The Silesian University of Technology invites you to the next edition of Science Days, which will take place on 10 and 11 April. It is a unique event that brings together outstanding scientists from Poland and abroad, winners of prestigious European Research Council (ERC) grants and researchers with Highly Cited Researcher (HCR) status. During the two-day meeting, the latest scientific achievements, innovative technologies and research potential of the University will be presented.

The Science Days will begin on 10 April at 9 a.m. with the opening of a two-day international conference, during which participants – including prominent world-class scientists with Highly Cited Researcher status and ERC grant laureates - will discuss key scientific issues related to sustainable development and improving the health and lives of people. The conference will focus on six Priority Research Areas (POBs) of the Silesian University of Technology:

  • POB1 - Computational Oncology and Personalised Medicine – panel " he latest generations of genomic measurement technologies and their impact on diagnosis and treatment planning" panel,
  • POB2 - Artificial Intelligence and Data Processing - panel " Ethical and technical challenges of autonomous traffic",
  • POB3 - Materials of the Future - panel " The future of electrode materials",
  • POB4 - Smart Cities and Mobility of the Future - panel "Innovations in Smart Cities"",
  • POB5 - Process Automation and Industry 4.0 – panel “Digital Twins in Industry 4.0 – From Simulation to Intelligent Management”
  • POB6 - Climate and environmental protection, modern energy – panel " Natural Hydrogen: A Game-Changer for the Energy Transition? Bridging Perspectives from the EU and US on Geology, Technology, and Policy”

The conference will be opened by a lecture by Prof. Luisa F. Cabeza, an outstanding scientist with the current status of Highly Cited Researcher, presently working at the University of Lleida, where she heads the GREiA research group specialising in thermal energy storage and energy efficiency in buildings.

The conference is aimed at representatives of both the academic and socio-economic environment - local authorities, representatives of business and industry and NGOs. Invited speakers, guests and panellists will include academics from the Silesian University of Technology, industrial authorities, as well as eminent specialists and researchers from other Polish and foreign universities.

The conference will take place on 10 and 11 April from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Hall A of the Education and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, ul. Konarskiego 18B. The conference will be held in English with simultaneous interpretation into Polish.

In order to confirm your participation, it is necessary to register, which will start on 20 March on the event website.

The conference is free of charge.

The event will be supplemented by presentations of student scientific clubs, which will be held in the Education and Congress Centre during the two days of the conference and the opportunity to visit the modern facilities and key laboratories of the Silesian University of Technology, which will be open to employees, doctoral students, students and invited guests on April 10 and 11 from 12:00 to 17:30. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about advanced research equipment and its potential applications in ongoing scientific projects. In addition, a campus tour is planned for guests from outside the University.

The Department of Thermal Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology, together with its industry partners, is announcing a nationwide competition for the best Master’s thesis on the application of computational methods to the simulation of thermal and flow processes. The aim of the competition is to promote students’ achievements in the application of computational techniques in the broadly defined field of thermal engineering. Thanks to the presence of representatives from industry and software companies on the competition jury, information about the best theses and their authors will reach potential employers.
