Candidate – Recruitment procedure

A person may be admitted to a doctoral programme who holds a degree of magister, master of engineering or equivalent.

A person who graduated from a first-cycle programme or a student who completed the third year of a uniform master's programme may also be admitted to a doctoral programme in case of

  1. on the basis of the documents submitted by the candidate, the central admissions committee determines that the candidate has particularly high scientific achievements in a given or related discipline in which the doctoral school is conducted,
  2. the central selection committee will assess, on the basis of an interview with the candidate, whether the candidate has extended knowledge of scientific research methodology and of dissemination of scientific activity results.

You can only be a doctoral student at one doctoral school at a time.

Recruitment is conducted electronically through the DreamApply system.

Candidates submit the required documents to the Secretariat of the Doctoral School by the date specified in the schedule.

The Central Recruitment Committee conducts interviews with candidates who have submitted a set of documents.

Admission to the Doctoral School is based on the results of the competitive procedure within the number of places in the Doctoral School. The ranking list shall be determined on the basis of the number of points obtained by particular candidates, awarded in accordance with the detailed rules and procedure of evaluating candidates for the doctoral school. Candidates shall be qualified according to their place on the ranking list up to the number of places and one person for each research topic announced. The central selection committee shall determine the minimum number of points to be obtained by candidates throughout the recruitment process. The set number of points shall be valid for all admissions in that recruitment.

Admission to a doctoral school shall be effected by enrolment on the list of doctoral students. Admission to a doctoral programme shall be refused by means of an administrative decision. A student may request a review of the decision within fourteen days of its delivery.

Detailed rules and procedure for assessing candidates for admission to the doctoral programme

  1. The maximum number of points a candidate can obtain is 100.
  2. The interview is conducted:
    1. in case the candidate submits documents confirming the knowledge of English at the level of at least B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - in Polish or, at the candidate's request, in English,
    2. in case a candidate does not submit documents confirming his/her knowledge of English at the level of at least B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages - in English.
  3. The interview consists of two parts:
    1.  a multimedia presentation of the candidate, lasting no longer than 15 minutes, including presentation of:
      1. the candidate's profile,
      2. the results of his/her scientific work so far (including the scope of the master's thesis),
      3. the candidate's interest in the chosen research topic,
      4. the candidate's motivation for undertaking training at doctoral school,
    2. questions asked by the admissions panel, concerning in particular the content of the candidate's presentation and aiming at verifying the candidate's readiness to enter doctoral studies in the chosen thematic area.
  4. The number of questions asked by the promoter of the candidate's choice must not exceed half of the total number of questions asked by the selection panel.
  5. Knowledge of the English language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is assessed through an interview conducted in English. In case a candidate submits documents confirming the knowledge of the English language at least at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the candidate is awarded the maximum number of points for the knowledge of the English language.
  6. As regards academic achievements, only those achievements from the 5 years preceding the recruitment to the doctoral school will be assessed.
  7. Only academic achievements in the discipline or related discipline in which the doctoral school is conducted shall be assessed.
  8. The following criteria shall be taken into account when evaluating a candidate's scientific achievements:
    1. for scientific achievements concerning:
      1. a scientific monograph or a scientific article:
        - type and form,
        - percentage of the author's contribution,
        - number of points in the list of publications or in the list of scientific journals and peer-reviewed materials from international conferences drawn up in accordance with the regulations issued pursuant to Article 267, para. 2, item 2 of the Act,
        - innovativeness of the scientific research subject matter covered by the scientific monograph or scientific article,
      2. the research project:
        - role played,
        - period of participation,
        - number of scientific papers, scientific monographs, chapters in scientific monographs or scientific articles, practical applications of the results of scientific research or development work or implementations of the results of scientific activities resulting from the participation in the project,
        - prestige of the competition under which the project is financed,
        - innovativeness and importance of the project for the development of science,

      3. scientific conference:
        - range,
        - number of participants,
        - number of institutions represented,
        - number of speakers holding at least a PhD degree,
        - innovativeness of the scientific research being the subject of the scientific paper,
        - status of the organiser,

      4. the competition:
        - range,
        - place achieved,
        - percentage contribution to the achievement for which the team prize or distinction was awarded,
        - the number of participants, including the number of teams,
        - status of the organiser,

      5. practical applications of the results of research or development work, including patent applications, granted patents or implementation of the results of scientific activity in another form - the number of such applications,

      6. participation in the activities of a scientific circle or organisation:
        - role played,
        - period of participation,
        - participation in competitions,
        - innovativeness of the scientific research topics covered by the activities of the scientific circle or organisation.

  9. The scientific achievements of the candidate shall be documented in writing, in the form of:

    1. pages of a scientific monograph or scientific journal, containing the author's name or the authors' names, the title of the scientific monograph or scientific article, the name of the publishing house, the place of publication, the month and year of publication, ISBN, elSBN, ISSN, elSSN or DOI,

    2. statements of co-authors of a scientific monograph, a chapter in a scientific monograph or a scientific article on the percentage of the candidate's authorship contribution to the scientific monograph, chapter in a scientific monograph or a scientific article - in case of co-authorship,

    3. a statement by the head of the research project providing information on the number, source of financing, duration and aim of the project, the role played by the candidate in the project and the scope of the tasks performed by him/her, as well as the effects of the project

    4. the programme of a scientific conference or post-conference material, including the names of the speakers and the institutions they represent

    5. a declaration of the candidate on the authorship and presentation of the scientific paper,

    6. a diploma or other document confirming the award or distinction in a competition

    7. declaration of the team leader or team members on the candidate's percentage share in the achievement
      in the case of a team prize,

    8. a confirmation of filing a patent application, granting a patent or implementing the results of scientific activity in another form,

    9. a confirmation of the receipt of the minister's scholarship for outstanding achievements.
