Software available for students and employees

Students and employees of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering can use third-party software. The most popular are:

  1. MATLAB
  2. Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching
    • Earlier names of the program: Microsoft Imagine and Dreamspark.
    • Program website https://aka.ms/devtoolsforteaching.
    • To use the program, you must have a Microsoft account assigned to the address @polsl.pl or @student.polsl.pl (student or employee).
    • Each MS account with the appropriate address (even those established long ago) gives permissions.
    • The user creates a Microsoft account themself (they can have many, assigned to different addresses); if the account only has a valid domain at the address (@polsl.pl or @student.polsl.pl), it will give the right to download programs.
    • The Microsoft account password is NOT related in any way to the SOTS password or the employee password. The user chooses the password themself.
    • NOTE: Currently, the ONLY KNOWN possibility to set up a NEW MS account in the @polsl.pl / @student.polsl.pl domain is to do it through the Office 365 for Education  portal. Enter the email address with the domain @polsl.pl or @student.polsl.pl (e.g. janko1234@student.polsl.pl) in the "Enter school email address" field and follow the instructions.
    • The use of MS software downloaded via the portal is limited by the appropriate owner license (see also: azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/offers/azure-dev-tools-for-teaching/ point 4). Particularly noteworthy are the provisions that can be summarized as:
      • software downloaded after logging in as above (Microsoft account) can be installed on the computers of the account owner (e.g. private laptop - yes, department computer - no)
      • department computers require LAB keys available from the program administrator,
      • areas of application are teaching, non-commercial research
    • After logging in to the https://aka.ms/devtoolsforteaching portal, the download section should be visible (without clicking and searching in the menu) on the right side of the screen as "Download free software".
    • Support for BE Faculty employees and students is provided by: Jacek Kawa, PhD.
