Awards of the Minister of Education and Science for outstanding scientists of the Silesian University of Technology
Four scientists from the Silesian University of Technology received the award of the Minister of Education and Science on the occasion of the Polish Science Day. This distinction is awarded for achievements in the field of scientific, didactic, implementation and organisational activities as well as for lifetime achievements.
The Polish Science Day, which is celebrated on the birthday of Nicolaus Copernicus, has become a unique opportunity to reward the achievements of Polish academics and scientists. The awards of the Minister of Education and Science are granted in 5 categories: for significant achievements in the field of scientific, didactic, implementation, organisational activities and overall achievements.
The 1st-degree individual award for significant achievements in the field of organisational activity was awarded to Professor Aleksandra Kuzior PhD, DSc, Vice-Dean for the Cooperation and Development of the Faculty of Organization and Management. In this category, the awards were granted for expanding international cooperation, developing cooperation with the socio-economic environment or the effective management of the entity that creates the system of higher education and science.
The Minister of Education and Science awarded also distinctions for lifetime scientific achievements. An individual award was given to Professor Andrzej Świerniak PhD, DSc. The winners of this distinction are outstanding personalities of Polish science and higher education, who have conducted multi-annual research, teaching and organisational activity. They are also people who perform many important functions related to scientific activity.
For significant achievements in the field of scientific activity, the award went to Professor Marcin Woźniak PhD, DSc. Winners in this category receive awards for, among others, conducting scientific research, which resulted in new knowledge focused on the direct commercial application, conducting development works, managing research teams.
People awarded in the category of implementation activity practically used the results of scientific research or development works in industrial, scientific or commercial activities, they commercialised the results of scientific activities and know-how, implemented original design or technological achievements. The laureate in this category was Professor Łukasz Drobiec PhD, DSc.
The achievements of scientists from the Silesian University of Technology, as well as conducting innovative works responding to the contemporary needs of the economy and business, contribute to the strengthening of the University's potential, as well as its position among scientific institutions in the country and abroad. The Silesian University of Technology is also inspired by the scientific tradition, responding to research challenges and focusing on high-quality education for more than 75 years.

Two distinctions and the IEEE Gold Medal for Professor Marian Kampik
We are proud to announce that the Head of our Department, Prof. Marian Kampik, received two distinctions and the Gold Medal of the prestigious Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for publishing activity in the journal "Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement" over the last seven years.
Study visit to the FCA Poland plant
On 10 May 2018, a group of students from Power Engineering, Semester IV, participated in a study visit to the FCA Poland plant in Tychy. The students were supervised by employees of the Department of Metrology, Electronics and Automatics: Ph.D. Janusz Tokarski, Ph.D. Ryszard Bogacz, and Ph.D. Beata Krupanek. During the visit, under the supervision of professional guides, students had the opportunity to visit the Fiat 500 and Lancia car factory.
