The funding obtained by PhD DSc Marcin Kozłowski, prof. at SUT for a research project entitled "Analysis of the internal pressure in 3D bent insulating glass" in the last edition of the MINIATURE 5 competition financed by the National Science Center (NCN)
The scientific goal of the project is an experimental and numerical analysis of the gas pressure in the chamber of a 3D bent insulating glass unit subjected to climatic loads depending on the bending stiffness of the insulating glass unit resulting from the curvature of the glass panes and their thickness. In the case of bent insulating glass units, which are stiff compared to flat glass panes (due to the curvature of the glass), the internal pressure may reach much higher values due to gas constriction and low deformability of the glass panes. In extreme cases, this phenomenon may lead to scratching the glass or unsealing of the insulating glass, and thus loss of its integrity.
The scope of research planned in the project will allow to obtain new knowledge about the basic physical phenomena regarding the behavior of insulating glass units with curved panes depending on the change in the volume of gas inside the chamber of the insulating glass unit, and the developed methodology may contribute to reducing the cases of unsealing of insulating glass units caused by internal pressure of considerable value.
