Prof. Marcin Gorawski, DSc., PhD., Eng. become a full professor in the field of engineering and technical sciences, the discipline of technical IT and telecommunicatio
By the nomination issued on 22nd February 2021 upon the application submitted by the Council of Scientific Excellence on 22nd December 2020, the President of the Republic of Poland granted the title of a full professor in the field of engineering and technical sciences, the discipline of technical IT and telecommunication, to Prof. Marcin Gorawski (Journal of Laws (MP) 2021, item 324 of 6th Apr. 2021)
Prof. Marcin Gorawski started his scientific career under guidance of Prof. Stefan Węgrzyn at the Institute of Real Time Computer Science, the Faculty of Automation and Computer Science (nowadays the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology) and, simultaneously, the Works of Systems for Comprehensive Automation of the Polish Academy of Science (nowadays the Institute of Theoretical and Applied IT of the Polish Academy of Science) in Gliwice. His PhD thesis entitled: “Self-protection networks for the set of faults classified to combinational, asynchronous and oscillating types as a new subclass of fault-tolerant networks’ was presented in 1986 under the supervision of Prof. Ferdynand Wagner. Then in 2010 he completed the monograph study ‘Advanced data warehouses’ and was nominated as the Doctor of Science. The both scientific degrees in the field of technical sciences and in the discipline of computer science were awarded by Council of the Faculty Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology.
Since 2010 Prof. Marcin Gorawski has been focused on the self-developed Theory of Data Space and Algorithms and the methodologies dedicated to build advanced warehouses of BigData sets as well as on detailing of models combined with patenting of his achievements. His studies encompass a very broad scope of scientific and research topics, staring from modeling and development of logic diagrams, through data indexation, algorithms for Materialized Algorithm Lists (MAL), balancing of loads in stream processing systems and delay-free data warehouses, exploration of data and trajectories of its traffic along with protection of data privacy, up to detection of critical anomalies in BigData sets and parallel data processing in the processes of data extraction and storage.
After 2010 he developed more than 50 publications, five (of nine altogether) patents and supervised three PhD theses that were presented and awarded with distinctions.
Prof. Marcin Gorawski authored or co-authored more than 360 articles in journals, chapters in textbooks and conference papers. The number of publications and Hirsch index provided by respective reference databases are the following: Web of Science (86, H-Index of 7), SCOPUS (96, H-Index of 8), Google Scholar (348, H-Index of 13), DBLP (93).
During his professional career Prof. Marcin Gorawski was involved in engineering and implementation of IT systems for industrial plants (including the cement works in Górażdże, ‘Katowice’ Steelworks, Non-Ferrous Smelting Plant ‘Szopienice’, Zinc and Lead Smelter in Miasteczko Śląskie, Hard Coal Mines ‘Makoszowy’ and ‘Szombierki’, Lignite Mine ‘Turów’ and ‘Turów’ Power Plant. He was also employed by numerous IT companies, including Oracle Corporation and COIG S.A.) and involved in more than 75 research projects and grants as well as in implementation of more than 220 IT systems. In the field of education he compiled nearly 40 teaching syllabuses for the Silesian University of Technology and the Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
