The opening of the post-competition exhibition "Nowe Zesławice" (transl. New Zesławice)

Charts and models containing students' proposals for the development of the area in the northern part of Kraków - comprise the post-competition exhibition "Nowe Zesławice", which is displayed in the hall of the Faculty of Architecture at the Silesian University of Technology. The opening took place on Monday, 30 May.

The subject of the competition was to develop a master plan for the Zesławice district in Kraków. It is an area formerly occupied by a clay mine; to the north of Kraków, on the administrative border of the city.

The Grand Prix was awarded to the following team: Daria Bal, Wiktoria Bogusz, Monika Cupiał, Kacper Drobiec, Natalia Dymarska, Marta Sanigórska. The hosts were: Agata Twardoch and Łukasz Harat.

- The award-winning project proposes a very reasonable development phasing of this site, while it is based on such a communication backbone network, which assumes the development of public transport and urban space, in a very mature way. Moreover, it also respects the green areas. We appreciated the combination between the urban and the green part," said Prof. Agata Twardoch.

The works were prepared within the subject of urban design of residential estates. The competition was organised in cooperation between the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology and Zesławice Sp. z o.o.

The Head of the Department of Urban and Spatial Planning, Prof. Alina Pancewicz, emphasised that the cooperation of the Faculty with the external partners is beneficial for both parties. - For many years now, we have been conducting various types of such co-operation - with partners from local governments, enterprises, architectural offices and companies. The benefit for students is that they have the opportunity to face the real problems they may encounter in the design process," she said.

Based on the competition works a scientific and research study was prepared: "Kraków Zesławice. Study of land development for residential housing in Zesławice district in Kraków", auth. A. Pancewicz, A. Twardoch, Z. Sasiadek, J. Pocisk-Dobrowolski. Published by the Silesian University of Technology Press.
