Professor Mirosław Handke PhD, DSc passed away

It is with deep regret that we inform about the death of Professor Mirosław Handke, an outstanding scientist, Rector of the AGH University of Science and Technology in the period from 1993 to 1998 and the Minister of National Education from 1997 to 2000.

Prof. Mirosław Handke was born in Leszno in 1946. He graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at the Jagiellonian University. He was affiliated with the AGH University of Science and Technology since 1969. He was the founder and head of the Department of Silicate Chemistry at AGH, later transformed into the Department of Silicates Chemistry and Macromolecular Compounds at the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics.

From 1993 to 1998 he was the rector of the AGH University of Science and Technology. He was the President of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities of Technology. He also initiated the establishment of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland. In years 1997 - 2000 he was the Minister of National Education and the co-author of the education reform in 1999.

Prof. Mirosław Handke was the author of numerous scientific publications, many of them listed on the Google Scholar, as well as the author of socio-political and educational publications, textbooks and books. He was also a member of many national and international scientific associations.

The funeral ceremony for the late Prof. Mirosław Handke will begin on 29 April at 10 a.m. at the University Collegiate Church of St. Anne in Kraków, where a funeral mass will be celebrated.
