Katarzyna Sindera is the winner of the 5th Silesian edition of Three Minute Thesis®

Katarzyna Sindera from the Institute of Chemical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences - won the 5th Silesian edition of the Three Minute Thesis® competition. The next places on the podium were taken by representatives of the Silesian University of Technology: Kacper Kuta and Eryk Goldmann.

Three Minute Thesis® is a competition for PhD students who talk about their research in 3 minutes.

- This competition is a unique opportunity to practice talking about science in an accessible and interesting way, and also short and specific. A PhD is an excellent time to practice such skills. The number of people interested in the competition, which is growing every year, clearly shows that it is a good path for the development of scientific communication of young scientists - said the director of the Centre for the Popularization of Science, Dr. Aleksandra Ziembińska-Buczyńska, prof. of SUT.

Competition winners:

1st place: Katarzyna Sindera (Institute of Chemical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences) - "Man in smog, smog in man - a problem of the 21st century?"
2nd place: Kacper Kuta (Silesian University of Technology) – "Daedalus or Icarus? Satellite life analysis"

3rd place: Eryk Goldmann (Silesian University of Technology) - "Concrete feels!"

Audience Award: Katarzyna Sindera Engineering Award: Krzysztof Grzyb (Silesian University of Technology) - "Can building structures talk?"

Three Minute Thesis® is a science communication competition that presents topics and research related to the doctorate. Its important aspect is the time devoted to the presentation - it is only 3 minutes, during which doctoral students must explain in an accessible and understandable way for recipients not related to the field what they do in their scientific activities.

This year's, fifth Silesian edition of Three Minute Thesis® was organized by the Centre for Popularization of Science of the Silesian University of Technology and the University Council of the Self-Government of Doctoral Students of the Silesian University of Technology.

PhD students from the Silesian University of Technology, the University of Silesia, the Medical University of Silesia, the Institute of Chemical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gliwice, Jan Długosz University of Humanities and Life Sciences, the University of Economics and the Częstochowa University of Technology took part in the competition.
