Jan Bąk PhD Eng. passed away
It is with deep regret that we inform that on March 30, 2021, at the age of 76, Jan Bąk PhD, Eng. a retired employee of the former Institute of Mining Mechanisation, currently the Department of Mining Mechanisation and Robotics, Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation, passed away.
Jan Bąk PhD, Eng. was born on October 15, 1944 in Brzeszcze. He completed his master's studies at the Silesian University of Technology in 1970. In 1979 he obtained a doctorate in technical sciences. He was a long-term employee of the Faculty of Mining and Geology (currently the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation).
The works of Jan Bąk PhD, Eng. focused on issues related to mechanics as well as the construction and operation of machines. For his scientific and teaching activities he received numerous awards, including the "Meritorious for the Silesian University of Technology" in 1985, the Silver Cross of Merit II degree in 1985, and the Golden Badge "Meritorious for the Development of the Katowice Voivodship". He was a member of many organisations and scientific societies, including the Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and the Board of the Association of Educators
and Applied Mechanics Society and the Board of Directors of the Association of Alumni of the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Automation of Silesia, as well as author and co-author of numerous scientific papers in the field of mechanics, machine construction and operation, published in foreign and national scientific journals.
Jan Bąk PhD, Eng. was a valued scientist and an excellent lecturer and educator of many generations of young people, a very kind and popular teacher, always ready to help and support and above all a good person. He enjoyed great authority among his colleagues and never refused to help.

The funeral ceremony will take place on April 2, 2021 at 1.00 p.m. in the chapel of the Central Cemetery at 120 Kozielska Str. in Gliwice.
