Handball players at EHTIC

Representatives of the Handball Association in Poland visited the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC) for the second time. Monday's meeting concerned the possibility of creating a research program for handball players by our scientists.

The meeting was attended by the director of EHTIC prof. Marek Gzik and Henryk Szczepański, president of the Handball Association in Poland, as well as Sławomir Szmal, a goalkeeper with 20 years of experience in the national team, multiple medallist of the World Championships and Polish Championships, responsible for sports training, Damian Drobik - Sports Director of ZPRP (Handball Association in Poland) and Dr. Mirosław Baum , chairman of the Board of Referees of the Handball Association in Poland.

During the meeting, the research capabilities of a team of scientists from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology in the field of engineering support for sports were presented.

- Looking at the scope of research and the possibilities offered by EHTIC laboratories, I am very impressed. I think that in the case of handball, the scope of research conducted here can be used already at the stage of selecting young players. The scope of its activities is really very wide. I am glad that I was able to see all this and find out about the methodology and practical application of this type of laboratories - stressed the President of ZPRP, Henryk Szczepański.

The research conducted at EHTIC allows not only to assess the impact of the muscular system on the musculoskeletal system, or to estimate the risk of injuries, but also to determine the impact of acoustic stimuli on the player's behaviour on the court.

- Talent and natural predispositions are certainly the basis for practicing sport. But the use of science, evaluation thanks to its application of its capabilities are a guarantee of success. Our centre can greatly help with this in every sport discipline - assures prof. Marek Gzik Director of EHTIC.

European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC) of the Silesian University of Technology is a modern research and development centre operating in Zabrze at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. Interdisciplinary research, service, information, training and promotion activities in the field of health technologies are conducted there.
