6th Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE

Lectures, workshops, scientific shows, exhibitions, concerts, talks, debates, competitions and meetings with special guests – several hundred activities in total. In addition, 2,000 scientists and popularisers of science, 17 stages, 6 knowledge zones.

The numbers speak for themselves - the 6th Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE is a great celebration of science.

The event is organized by nine Silesian universities. It began on December 3rd - with the opening gala at the Planetarium - Silesian Science Park in Chorzów. The main part of the festival includes two days of attractions in the building of the International Congress Centre in Katowice, where all the above-mentioned activities take place (December 4th – 5th).

There is something for everyone - festival participants could choose what interests them. The participants could take part in the following areas of activities:   humanities and social sciences, medicine and health, exact sciences, technology, art, nature. Not only could they learn about science, but also enjoy a massage, play chess, learn the basics of first aid or try your hand at designing computer games.

As every year, scientists from the Silesian University of Technology join the organization of the festival and popularize science. Several dozen representatives of our University conducted lectures, workshops and shows - in various fields of science. 

The Silesian University of Technology was particularly visible in the technology zone, where scientists and students presented topics such as: the world of welding, material engineering, robotics and programming in a nutshell, artificial intelligence. The visitors could also see student racing cars and board a glider simulator.

On Monday, our University is present in the Candidate Zone all day long.

As part of the event, on December 4th, representatives of Silesian universities and the city of Katowice signed a cooperation agreement to support Silesian innovations through the Erasmus+ Program. On behalf of the Silesian University of Technology, the document was signed by the vice-rector for science and development, prof. Marek Pawełczyk.

The Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE is one of the most important events in preparation for Katowice as the European City of Science 2024. The main organizer is the University of Silesia. Cooperating with the city of Katowice, the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis, the Marshal's Office of the Voivodship of Silesia, Silesian University of Technology, Medical University of Silesia, J. Kukuczka Academy of Physical Education, Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, J. Długosz University of Humanities and Life Sciences in Częstochowa, the Częstochowa University of Technology, the University of Economics in Katowice and the University of Technology and Humanities in Bielsko-Biała.
