Student from the Silesian University of Technology a laureate of INTERSTUDENT 2020 competition

During the gala which was a part of the conference "Foreign Students in Poland 2020" at Lodz University of Technology, the winners of the competition for the best international student,  INTERSTUDENT 2020 were awarded. These were a Vietnamese,
a Chinese and a Cameroonian – a doctorate student from the Silesian University of Technology.

For many years now, the number of international students, choosing Poland as the country of their education, has been increasing every year. In the academic year 2018/2019, 78,259 international students from 174 countries studied in Poland, i.e. 5,516 more than the year before (an increase of over 7.5 percent). According to preliminary data, presented at the conference "Foreign Students in Poland 2020" around 85,000 of international students study in our country in the current academic year.

In the tenth edition of the competition organized as part of the Study in Poland programme, run jointly by the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland and the Perspektywy Education Foundation, 70 applications from more than 30 universities were submitted. The competition takes place under the honorary patronage of Professor Jan Szmidt - chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland. The aim of the competition is to promote the best international students at Polish universities.

This year there were the following winners: in the category of bachelor studies: Lien Chau Ton Nu from Vietnam, student of International Relations (first cycle studies in English) at the WSB University in Dąbrowa Górnicza; in the category of master studies: Huiling Zhang from China, student of the Faculty of Polish Studies from the Jagiellonian University; in the category of doctoral studies: Godlove Suila Kuaban from Cameroon, a third year doctoral student in computer science at the Silesian University of Technology and an assistant at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gliwice.

In the Silesian University of Technology the number of foreign students has been growing gradually. In 2016, there were just 72, while in 2017 and 2018 our university was chosen by 133 and 181 foreign students as a place to acquire their knowledge.
