Cooperation with Microsoft

Recently, Dariusz Mrozek, PhD and his team from the Laboratory of Biomedical Database Systems at the Silesian University of Technology started a collaboration with Microsoft in order to solve the challenge faced by numerous scientists worldwide. Since laboratories all around the world usually do not have the appropriate equipment to process terabytes of data for protein analysis, the team from our laboratory provided various algorithmic solutions, in order to solve this problem.

Protein analysis, as a crucial part of medical diagnostics, requires huge computational resources, that’s why Dariusz Mrozek and his team prepared the Hadoop program, available on Microsoft Azure platform, which enables researchers all around the world to easily process necessary data in a short amount of time. Calculations which used to take several days, now can be completed in less than 2 hours. Such an efficiency boost can highly contribute to the work of scientists and, consequently, contribute to finding new cancer therapies.
