Silesian University of Technology begins cooperation with German mining group

have signed a cooperation agreement. It will be mainly carried out in the areas of research, education and human resources. New partners decided to join forces to jointly create a modern hard coal mine. The contract was signed on September 13 in the Rector's Office of the Silesian University of Technology.


- We want to create the most modern mine using the latest technologies - emphasized during the meeting Heinz Schernikau, the president of HMS Bergbau AG, which has been active in the international mining industry, including Poland, for over twenty years. - We decided to carry out investments in Poland because we are convinced that the scientific research conducted here, including mining or coal processing is of the highest standard in the world - added the company's president.


The rector of the Silesian University of Technology, professor Arkadiusz Mężyk, assured that the university is ready to conduct such projects. The Rector added that technologies for mining have been developed for years in many faculties of the university, not only in the field of exploitation of deposits, but also in in the areas of automation and mechanization of mining, coal utilization or processing and mining equipment production. - We are very much interested in developing modern mining technologies. This year, the Silesian University of Technology together with the Katowice Special Economic Zone created the Silesian Center of Industry Competence 4.0. Within this project, we also want to support the implementation of modern technologies in mining operations - said prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk.


In addition to developing cooperation in the research and development area, the Silesian University of Technology also committed to educate HMS Bergbau employees, organize trainings using their own didactic base, perform expert opinions and analyses, and provide engineering staff for HMS Bergbau. On the other hand, the German company will provide internships to students, organize recruitment of engineering staff from among graduates of the Silesian University of Technology and enable students to write their diploma theses on topics related to the company related operations. Under the agreement, the new partners will also take joint actions to obtain financial resources, including EU funds, enabling effective and partner cooperation.


The agreement was signed by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk and the chairman of the board of HMS Bergbau AG Heinz Schernikau.
