Delegation from the Japanese company Sumitomo Heavy Industry

Silesian University of Technology hosted a delegation from the Sumitomo Heavy Industry. The board members of the Japanese company visited our university on 15 May at the invitation of prof. Janusz Kotowicz, Vice-Rector for Collaboration with Civic and Economic Environment. The purpose of the visit was to familiarize the guests with the scientific and research potential of the Silesian University of Technology.

The meeting was attended by the Rector prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, Vice Rectors: prof. Janusz Kotowicz and prof. Marek Pawełczyk, Vice Presidents of Sumitomo heavy Industry: dr Yoshiyuki Tomita, Toshihiko Chijiiwa and Toshiyuki Okoshi, as well as Jaroslaw Mlonka, president of the board of Sumitomo SHI FW Energia Polska S.A. The meeting was also attended by the dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, prof. Anna Timofiejczuk and Vice-Dean prof. Wojciech Sitek.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Rector presented our university, focusing on modern technologies developed at the Silesian University of Technology. Then, a representative of Sumitomo Heavy Industry, Dr. Yoshiyuki Tomita told about the history and areas of activity of the company. These speeches were a platform for discussions that took place later in the meeting.
The second part of the visit took place at the faculties
of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering as well as at the Center of New Technologies, where guests were guided by Vice Rectors: prof. Marek Pawełczyk and prof. Tomasz Trawiński.

At the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science were presented topics related to computer science, robotics and the Internet of Things, while at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering on materials science and medical equipment. Guests also had the opportunity to see selected laboratories of both faculties.
