SUT’s researcher appointed an expert by the European Commission

Assistant Professor Jerzy Respondek, PhD, was appointed by the European Commission to perform the function of an expert for the ERA Chairs programme within the Horizon 2020.

The objective of ERA Chairs programme is to financially support European universities and research institutions in hiring outstanding scientists for up to five years.

The second, inextricably linked goal of the programme, is the implementation of structural changes meant to ensure durability of the improvement in the quality of scientific research of a given unit achieved as a result of awarded grants.

Selection of the best grant proposals takes place in a two-step procedure. After a remote individual assessment, a weekly session takes place at the headquarters of the European Union’s Research Executive Agency in Brussels. The evaluation team not only consists of outstanding representatives of all fields of science, but also representatives and journalists specialized in popularization of research. The European Commission recruits experts from EU countries, as well as candidate ones.

Assistant Professor Jerzy Respondek, PhD, is an employee of the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science. He conducts lectures in numerous western institutions, including in Pisa, Nuremberg, and the home department of Alan Turing at the University of Manchester.
