About the Chair:

The Chair continues the traditions, scientific and didactic activities of many institutes, chairs and departments that existed at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and related ones, including established with the University of Technology in 1945, Chair of Structural Mechanics, Chair of Mechanics and Strength of Materials and the Chair of Bridges Construction, and the founded later Institute of Dynamic Systems and the Institute of Theoretical Mechanics. During the more than 70 years of existence of the Silesian University of Technology, these units underwent numerous transformations so that in 2017 the existing the Chair of Construction Structures Theory with the symbol RB5 and the Chair of Mechanics and Bridges with the symbol RB8 were combined into one with the first symbol and the second name. The established Chair combines the power of the most important building tools such as building sciences such as, for example, building mechanics with their practical application to create building and engineering structures, in particular the most spectacular works of builders such as bridges and shell structures.
